If I was serious about getting into track days I'd look at something like a Robin Hood kit car and bin the usual pinto block you find in them in favour of a GSXR engine.

Bike powered lightweight kit car FTW.

depends on your budget like everything, id get a force pc or maybe a jedi if i had a trailer etc would effortlessly beat any road car and be cheaper to run on track

if your after road legal anything fairly quick with small wheels to keep the cost of tyres down mx5 etc

For cheap track fun a clio 172 striped caged and a few cheap supension mods takes some beating.

For out right performance on track a well set up classic impreza takes alot of beating, just look at time attack and TOTB results

    in the last few years.

or my road car at Japfest

I had a Saxo VTR, well I had two of them actually.. But the second one especially ended up on many a track day and come the end of my time with it was a surprisingly quick little car. With some engine work and chassis work it surprised many a high powered car on the day.

Despite being driven within an inch of it life, with good service I kept it for 80,000mls the worst failure was breaking the differential at around 30,000mls.. Wasn’t a major ball ache to have repaired.

If you can find a VTR now thats not shagged it may be worth a look.

Though I like Mike's suggestion of the 172.

    rx7 FC!!

doooo it... with a set of coilovers on it thats all you need

or a 106 rallye .. i used to have one and it was a total rocket, i spent bout 500quid on it including a pugsport exhaust system and it was brilliant and could outrun anything on twisties..

not that i ever raced on country lanes, that would be stupid and irresponsible...it was all on a track..

also if you ever want to come out in my fc3 you may get a shock.. the rear wheel toe correction makes them crazy in the corners pick them up between about 700-2k ish
