Default Component speaker wiring

It would appear that the speakers in the component hifi system in my svx have turned to dust. I have replaced the rear woofers with some spare ones that came out my Pajero Evo and have just bought some 5 inch mids and 1 inch tweeters. The problem I have is sorting out the signal + from the earth- on the tweeters, the 5 inch had + marked so no problem there but the tweeters do not have a signal on them but there is a capacitor fitted to one wire which goes to earth after the connection and the other must be the - am I right?

have you got a pic mr W

im pretty handy with car audio shizzle..

generally the tweeters that come with component setups run off a set of crossovers so you can set the signals up correctly and split the sound properly

if you have gone for coaxials then the tweeters are not needed, but components will require a tweeter and a component speaker itself and a crossover

No don't have a pic but I'm almost positive that the signal would be the one which had the capacitor attached to it, the 5 inch door one had a + on the connection its just the 1 inch tweeter that has nothing and the SVX site doesn't have the CXD model wiring diagram because they didn't send my model to the states. I'm connecting up the cross over to the tweeter no I've just gone for a plain 5 inch not coaxial.

it may be a case of trial and error you wont damage the speakers by running the incorrect signal through them temporaroly, another trick i learnt twas hold a battery to the wire. if the cone moves out, its the posotive..

Managed to sort it the bass is good and clear so the speakers are not out of phase. Its amazing what 8 years in the sun at Subaru's car park can do to speakers the tweeters crumbled and the mid range in the doors had no edge so they just flapped sounds very very nice now. Subaru really pushed the boat out with these cars as far as spec goes the hifi system is just that a proper component hifi system.
